Bill Collectors calling for IRS Accounts now

Bill Collectors calling for IRS Accounts now

tax formsThe next phone call regarding past due taxes may actually NOT be a scam.

The IRS entered into tax collection contracts with 4 third parties for the collection of back taxes.  This is due to the FAST Act (Fixing America’s Surface Trasportation Act) which was enacted in December, 2016.  The IRS had three months to get the debt collector biz rollings.

The companies are:

CBE Group, 1309 Technology Parkway, Cedar Falls, IA 50613

Conserve, 200 CrossKeys Office Park, Fairport, NY 14450

Performant, 333 N. Canyons Parkway, Livermore, CA 94551

Pioneer, 325 Daniel Zenker Drive, Horseheads, NY 14845

If you get a call you may want to ask the person the address to at least get some sort of verification that they are who they say they are.  Most people are aware that they have past due tax debt by the time they’d be in collection.  Still be careful, we may have imposters posing as collectors now.

The types of past due tax debt the collectors are NOT planned to call on include:

Deceased taxpayers.

Taxpayers under 18.

Victims of tax-related identity theft.

Taxpayers currently under civil examination, litigation, criminal investigation, or levy.

Taxpayers with pending or active offers in compromise or with installment agreements

Taxpayers who have a right to appeal their tax cases.

Taxpayers whose cases are classified as innocent spouse cases.

Taxpayers in presidentially declared disaster areas who are requesting relief from collection & taxpayers in designated combat zones.
